Municipal governments provide public services that meet the needs of their residents and raise most of the money for financing these services from the property taxes paid by residents and businesses, along with funding from other levels of government.
Municipalities are governed by municipal councils, which make decisions about municipal financing and services. In Ontario, the head of a local (lower or single-tier) municipal council is called the Mayor, and the members are called Councillors.
