Virtual Zoom court appearances

Court proceedings can be held remotely. If you have received notice of your court appearance and will be unable to connect (e.g., if you do not have the appropriate technology or would like to request an accessible format or communication support), please email poa@norfolkcounty.ca, or call 519-426-5870 or 226-NORFOLK, extension 2506.

Before your meeting, download Zoom and perform a test call to ensure device functionality.

If joining from a mobile device (laptop, tablet, phone), ensure the battery is fully charged and/or connected to an external power source.

You will be placed on hold or in a waiting room when joining the meeting. Please do not disconnect; the process can take some time.

Your attendance at the virtual court has the same requirements and expected level of decorum as if you were attending in person. Follow any direction provided by the presiding judicial official or the court clerk.

Exhibit filing - for remote trials ONLY

Exhibit evidence can be submitted to poa@norfolkcounty.ca or in person at 185 Robinson Street in Simcoe between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. no later than five business days before the trial date.

Acceptable file formats are:

  • Documents: Word, PDF
  • Photographs: JPG
  • Videos: MP4

The maximum size of the total allowed attachments by email is 10 MB.

Each document, video or photograph is to be separately attached and labelled in the following format:

  • Last name, First name, description of document, photograph or video, for example, Smith, John – Insurance Slip

The format of the email subject line is:

  • Last Name, First Name, Case Number, Defence or Prosecution, Trial Date, For example, Smith, John- 0123456A, Defence – Trial 31 December 2021

NOTE: In-person trials do not require exhibit evidence to be submitted in advance. 

Requesting disclosure

Disclosure is your right to access the officer’s notes and any evidence connecting to the charge made against you. This will help you prepare for trial.
