Livestock Compensation
Farmers who have experienced losses due to wildlife damage, such as coyote attacks, may be eligible for compensation provided by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA).
Norfolk County's By-law department will send a Livestock Evaluator to view the damage to livestock, take photos and prepare a report for the Ministry with information supplied by the animal owner. Norfolk County will then send the completed report to OMAFRA, which will determine any compensation as per their guidelines. Once the claim and amount owing have been approved by OMAFRA, Norfolk County will reimburse the livestock owner. The process from start to finish can take 1 -2 months, depending on the volume of claims and time of year.
