Norfolk County: What’s opened and closed Canada Day Monday

Norfolk County residents are reminded that most County services – and all County buildings – will not be available on Canada Day, Monday, July 1.  

The following is a list of impacted services and closures:   

County Administration Buildings

All buildings will be closed.   

Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit

All branches will be closed. For public health emergencies or hazards, such as outbreaks, food poisoning, meningitis, or rabies, please call our after-hours emergency phone number at 1-877-298-5888.  

Norfolk County seeks public input for first Transit Master Plan

Norfolk County is asking the community for input to guide the delivery of its transit service, Ride Norfolk, over the next ten years.

Ride Norfolk, developed through community partnerships and launched in 2011, is creating a Transit Master Plan, expected to be completed by early 2025. The plan will offer a comprehensive and sustainable transit strategy to meet residents’ current and future needs.

The service has experienced tremendous ridership growth by offering flexible, affordable, and accessible travel options.

County’s AA/Stable credit rating affirmed with Standard and Poor’s 

Yesterday, Standard and Poor’s (S&P) published Norfolk County’s credit rating, affirming the AA/Stable rating.

The main purpose of a credit rating is to provide financial information to potential investors on the debt issued by Norfolk. The AA rating signals to investors that the County’s credit is considered high-grade.

The rating was awarded based on the County’s exceptional liquidity, solid operating surpluses, expertise of management in implementing policy changes, and prudent debt and liquidity management.

2024-2029 Norfolk County Energy Conservation and Demand Management Plan  

The 2024-2029 Norfolk County Energy Conservation and Demand Management (ECDM) Plan has been approved by the Norfolk County Mayor and Council, pending ratification by Council next week.

As per its legislative requirements, Norfolk staff have developed and updated its ECDM Plan, with input from the Norfolk County Sustainability Advisory Committee. The document directs staff as they strive to meet ambitious corporate energy management goals and objectives.

The 2024-2029 Plan focuses on five strategic goals with specific objectives and targets over the next five years.

Watermain flushing scheduled for Simcoe

To address recent water quality concerns, watermain flushing around Thomson Road, Kennedy Road, Atwood Crescent, and Virginia Avenue in Simcoe is scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, and Wednesday, June 19. 

Paid parking starts in Norfolk lakeside communities on June 15

Beginning Saturday, June 15, visitors to some of the lakeside communities in Norfolk County will be required to pay for parking until Labour Day, Monday, September 2. Paid parking aims to manage traffic flow and optimize parking availability during peak tourist seasons.  

Third annual Norfolk Community Days starts Thursday

From June 13 to 16, Norfolk County is hosting Community Days for the third year.  

County facilities such as community centres, museums, libraries, fire halls, pools, arenas, and parks across Norfolk will host free recreational and cultural activities throughout the week. Service clubs, community groups, and local businesses are also hosting many free events

Addressing homelessness and the encampment at Talbot Gardens

Norfolk County acknowledges the growing concerns surrounding homelessness and apparent encampments in Simcoe including the apparent encampment at Talbot Gardens. As many residents have noticed, there has been an increase in individuals setting up tents and living outdoors as the warmer weather approaches. This situation has understandably raised various concerns within the community, prompting a transparent and empathetic response.

$500,000 grant from the Ontario Government provides upgrades to Delhi Kinsmen Pool

Earlier today, elected officials, community partners, and County staff met to hear more about the $500,000 Community Building Fund – Capital Stream from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), which was used to provide much-needed renovations to the Delhi Kinsmen Pool. The upgrades to the Delhi Kinsmen Pool provide a safer, more accessible, and enjoyable recreational space, promoting active lifestyles and social interaction among residents.

“I have fond memories of cooling off in this pool when growing up in Delhi,” said Bobbi Ann Brady, Haldimand-Norfolk MPP.

Norfolk celebrates Pride Month with flag raising

Norfolk County proudly announces the raising of the Pride Flag at the County Administration Building, located at 50 Colborne Street South in Simcoe, which took place on Friday, May 31, in adherence to the County’s flag policy. A ceremonial flag-raising event, officiated by Mayor Amy Martin, members of Council, and staff, is scheduled at the same location on Tuesday, June 4, at 12:30 p.m.

Boil water advisory to parts of Simcoe lifted

Water has been restored to the residents on Talbot Street affected by the service disruption, and the boil water advisory previously issued for those residents has been lifted.
