2024 Tree Giveaway in Norfolk County
Norfolk County is proud to announce its upcoming Tree Giveaway, which kicks off Wednesday, April 24 at 9 a.m., offering 190 trees to County residents.
The event is aimed at fostering environmental stewardship and promoting community engagement among Norfolk County residents. The initiative, set to coincide with Earth Week, aims to enhance air quality, combat climate change, and boost property values through tree planting.
Residents are encouraged to participate by planting a tree on their property, contributing to the County’s green infrastructure.
To apply for a tree at no cost, participants must be Norfolk County residents and commit to planting the tree on private property within Norfolk County, with permission from the property owner. The quantity is limited, and trees are available on a first-come-first-serve basis. There is a limit of one tree per household. Successful applicants will be notified through email.
Residents are reminded to contact OntarioOneCall.ca before digging to ensure the safety of underground utilities.
Available tree species include basswood, black cherry, downy serviceberry, Kentucky coffeetree, redbud, red maple, red oak, and Shumard oak. Trees range from one to two metres in height, depending on the variety.
Tree pickup will occur on Saturday, May 4, in Simcoe.
