Extreme weather in the forecast

With a major winter storm in the forecast, Norfolk County reminds residents to take precautions to stay safe, such as staying off roads, monitoring the weather conditions, and postponing non-essential travel.

Precipitation is expected to begin as rain with temperatures falling Friday morning leading to a potential flash freeze, accompanied by blizzard conditions.

While the County Roads department monitors snowfall levels and will plow area roads in priority sequence should sufficient accumulation occur, the community is reminded that staff and contractors will be on holiday schedules and patience is required and appreciated.

If the storm becomes unmanageable and poses a health and safety risk to staff, a “Significant Weather Event” may be declared. If this occurs, plowing operations and clean-up will take longer than expected and County staff may not be available.

Residents should remove any parked vehicles from the road in advance of the storm.

Closures and cancellations of County services including garbage and recycling collection, ServiceNorfolk, Provincial Offences Office, museum, library and recreation programming, Ride Norfolk, Health and Social Services, and transfer stations will be made by 7 a.m., and communicated through Norfolk’s social media channels (@NorfolkCountyCA respectively, on Facebook and Twitter).

Residents are encouraged to visit Hydro One’s website for information on preparing for storms, and how to stay safe during a power outage.
