Fall Leaf and Yard Waste Collection begins

Fall Leaf and Yard Waste collection begins next week in Norfolk County. With that in mind, residents should avoid raking or blowing leaves onto the street or a neighbouring property as per by-law 2004-213.

Leaves not only cause clogged sewer drains and make sidewalks and roadways slippery, but they also hinder the work of street sweepers.

Instead, residents are encouraged to participate in the final weeks of the leaf and yard waste curbside pickup, which begins October 16 and continues until November 24.

Leaf and Yard Waste collection takes place in the urban areas of Long Point, Simcoe, Port Dover, Langton, Port Rowan, Turkey Point, Vittoria, St. Williams, Courtland, Delhi, and Waterford on residents’ regular collection day.

Leaf and yard waste can be placed in brown paper leaf bags and left curbside on waste collection day. Leaves in plastic bags will not be collected.

Residents may also consider mulching leaves directly into their lawns, or composting. Alternatively, residents can bring leaf and yard waste material in yard waste bags or loose in a trailer to transfer stations in Simcoe and South Walsingham free of charge.
