Norfolk County honours the life of her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

Norfolk County continues to honour the life of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Her Majesty devoted her life to public service for 70 years as the longest-reigning monarch in Canadian and Commonwealth history.

On September 8, the day of Her Majesty’s passing, Norfolk County lowered the flags at the County Administration Building in Simcoe to half-mast. Additionally, Norfolk War Memorial, Carillon Tower played God Save The Queen followed by 96 strikes of the Bourdon Bell (one for every year of her life).  This is the protocol traditionally followed upon the death of our Monarch and was relayed to County staff by the Dominion Carillonneur at the Peace Tower in Ottawa.

Staff have since made additional gestures to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II, and also created avenues for residents to pay their respects, which include:

• All portraits of The Queen at County buildings have been draped in black ribbon, a sign of mourning
• A moment of silence was held at the Sept. 13 Council-in-Committee meeting
• A book of condolences will be available at the following locations in Norfolk County:
  • Norfolk County Archives: Sept. 14 – 16, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Delhi Tobacco Museum & Heritage Centre: Sept. 15 – 17, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Port Dover Harbour Museum: Sept. 14 – 17, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Waterford Heritage & Agricultural Museum: Sept. 14 – 17, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Norfolk County Public Library Simcoe Branch: Sept. 14 -15, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sept. 16, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sept. 17, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Norfolk County Public Library Waterford, Port Dover, Port Rowan, and Delhi Branches: Sept. 14 and 15, 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Sept.16, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; September 17, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• An online book of condolences is available for those who cannot attend in-person
