What’s happening in Norfolk County for Family Day, February 17

Norfolk County is reminding residents of changes to programs and facility closures on Family Day, Monday, February 17. While many buildings, programs and services are not open or running, there are several recreational opportunities for community members of all ages.

Family Day Programs:

Family Fun at the Simcoe Recreation Centre 
Families are invited to celebrate Family Day at the Simcoe Recreation Centre on February 17, 2025, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Activities include snow castle building, a scavenger hunt, crafts, and musical entertainment by Eric Brosseau. Guests can also enjoy s’mores by the campfire. Activities are weather-dependent and subject to change. 
 
The event is free of charge, and pre-registration is recommended by February 15 at NorfolkCounty.ca/Encore. All children must be accompanied by a guardian. 
 
Free Family Day Skating in Norfolk County 
Norfolk County residents can enjoy free skating on Family Day, Monday, February 17, thanks to community sponsors. All sponsored skates are free of charge. For the full Family Day weekend skating schedule, visit NorfolkCounty.ca/Skating
 
Port Dover Arena 
•    Public Skate: 12:00 – 1:50 p.m. (Sponsored by Port Dover Lions) 
•    Parent & Tot Skate: 2:30 – 3:20 p.m. (Sponsored by Port Dover Lions) 
 
Langton Arena 
•    Public Skate: 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. (Sponsored by LP Lioness) 
 
Free Family Day Weekend Swims in Norfolk County 
Norfolk County residents can enjoy free swimming over Family Day weekend, thanks to the Cornerstone Association of Realtors. 

Annaleise Carr Aquatic Centre 
•    Public Swim: Sunday, February 16, 2:15 – 3:15 p.m. 
•    Family Swim: Monday, February 17, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m

Closures and schedule changes:

County Administration Buildings    
All public buildings will be closed.  

Social Services and Housing   
Both Simcoe and Dunnville office locations will be closed. For crisis support, such as emergency accommodation, call the Victim Services Support Line at 1-800-264-6671. 

Heritage and Culture    
All museums and Norfolk County Archives will be closed. 
 
Norfolk County Public Library 
All branches will be closed. 

Ride Norfolk    
Ride Norfolk will not be in operation. 

ServiceNorfolk    
ServiceNorfolk will be closed. Residents can use the online Norfolk County Customer Service Portal to submit non-urgent service requests at any time. Alternatively, residents can email askus@norfolkcounty.ca. Staff will reply to emails in a priority sequence when offices reopen. 

Residents seeking emergency assistance regarding forestry, parks and facilities, public health, roads, water, sewer, and drainage, can call 1-877-298-5888. 

For after-hours By-law Enforcement, the public may use the OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) non-emergency line number at 1-888-310-1122.      

Transfer Stations    
Transfer stations will be closed. 

Waste collection    
Waste collection will be delayed one day throughout the week of February 17, except in Simcoe. Residents are encouraged to use the Recycle Coach app for personalized schedules and reminders.   

Essential and critical services    
All essential and critical services, including Fire and Paramedic Services, will continue to operate as usual.
