Norfolk County is challenging its residents to get out and enjoy Recreation and Parks Month. 

For the month of June, Norfolk County is joining communities across Ontario with local programs and events that encourage residents to participate in physical activity in parks, facilities, and trails, including guided urban walks, pickleball, swimming, Nordic pole walking, public skating, and more. 

“As a fitness enthusiast, I value any opportunity to enjoy recreation opportunities in Norfolk County,” said Mayor Amy Martin. “The benefits of getting out and being active are endless. I applaud our Recreation Department for taking a hands-on approach to Recreation and Parks Month.” 

Residents are encouraged to participate in one of the many free “try it” events in June, including: 

  • Try it Nordic Pole Walking on Friday, June 9 from 12 noon to 1 p.m., starting at the Simcoe Recreation Centre.  
  • Try it Swim Team with the Norfolk Hammerheads at the Annaleise Carr Aquatic Centre on Saturday, June 10 from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. to see what a swim team is all about 
  • Try it Aquafit at the Annaleise Carr Aquatic Centre on Thursday, June 22 from 7:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. 

Try it programs are available for registration through ENCORE, or by calling the Simcoe Recreation Centre at 519-426-5870 or 226-NORFOLK extension 2233. 

Residents can also organize a Recreation and Parks Month event with neighbours, friends, and family. Ideas include: 

  • Kick off the weekend with a neighbourhood walk  
  • Join a Pickleball game at an outdoor court in Norfolk County 
  • Visit the Gear Shop at the Simcoe Recreation Centre to rent equipment and try a new activity  
  • Organize a scavenger hunt 
  • Have a Dance Freeze party outside 
  • Hike, bike and walk on one of Norfolk County’s trails 
  • Fly a kite in an open area 
  • Check out the Lynn Valley Trail in Simcoe 
  • Take the dogs to the Waterford Dog Park 
  • Go skateboarding at Port Rowan Park 
  • Enjoy an evening stroll on the Delhi Rail Trail 
  • Browse the Norfolk County’s public skating schedule 
  • Join a Discover Norfolk Walk – visit the website for details on locations and times 
  • Try one of Norfolk County’s outdoor sports courts
