In celebration of Heritage Day and Heritage Week happening this month, Norfolk County’s Heritage and Culture department is highlighting several exciting events and initiatives.

Fundraising Auction

From Saturday, February 18 to Monday, February 27, the community is invited to bid on several unique items and experiences available through the Heritage and Culture Facebook page.

Bidders can comment on the photo of their chosen item to place a bid until the auction closes on Monday, February 27 at 6 p.m. Proceeds of the auction will support local museums and archives to help keep the County’s vast and expansive history alive. All information and auction rules will be posted on Facebook prior to the auction.

Launch of Online Collections

After over a year of merging and compiling information, photographs, and archival material, the Heritage and Culture team is excited to launch their first ever searchable database.

Beginning on Heritage Day, Monday, February 20, web visitors from around the world can discover Norfolk County’s history at norfolkculture.ca. This online database will expand the reach of County museum and archive collections and records.

Video Series, Capturing Painter William Edgar Cantelon

As part of Cantelon Project, Heritage and Culture has produced a new video series entitled “The Real Cantelon.”

The series will look at the paintings rendered by artist William Edgar Cantelon (1866-1950), who understood that what is here today may be gone tomorrow. Cantelon is known for his endless curiosity and for recognizing the value of everyday life. As an avid historian and prolific artist, Cantelon painted Norfolk County portraits, flora and fauna, landscapes, and historical landmarks. The debut video will be released on Friday, February 24 at on the Heritage and Culture Facebook and Instagram pages.

2023 Events, Exhibitions and Programs Guide

The 2023 Norfolk County Heritage & Culture Events, Exhibitions, Programs Guide is now available in print. Events and activities returning for 2023 include community events, exhibits, youth programming and more.

The guide can be picked up at the Delhi Tobacco Museum, Norfolk County Archives, Port Dover Harbour Museum, and Waterford Heritage and Agricultural Museum and can be downloaded digitally at norfolkcounty.ca/HCguide.
