Norfolk County is joining other municipalities across the province this June in celebrating Seniors Month.
The County is pleased to be operating two Seniors’ Active Living Centres (SALCs) offering a variety of activities and programs for residents 50 years and older, geared to help local seniors meet new friends and stay active and involved in the community.
Located at the Simcoe Recreation Centre, the Simcoe Seniors’ Centre provides many activities with a low-cost membership fee. Programs offered range from line dancing, pickleball, billiards, crafts, walking, yoga, qigong, and more.
West-end residents are encouraged to check out the Delhi Friendship Centre. This Delhi-based location also offers recreational, social, and educational programs. Members and non-members can participate in programs like cards/games, crafts, shuffleboard, billiards, and fitness, as well as a variety of workshops.
The free Seniors’ Centre Without Walls program is offered over the phone, allowing residents to stay active and connect with friends from the comfort of their own homes. Activities include gentle fitness, games day, bingo, and laughing yoga.
“Norfolk County is home to a very active population of seniors. For those residents who aren’t familiar with our programs, I encourage you to check out what we have to offer,” said Mayor Amy Martin. “With so many options, there is something that will be right for you.”
Norfolk County is also home to a number of seniors’ community groups such as the Port Dover Seniors, Langton Merry Makers, Waterford Senior Activity Group, South Coast Probus, and more.
