What will Norfolk be like by the year 2050? How do we ensure that future growth and development can benefit the community? On Tuesday, August 15, Norfolk County will launch the next phase of engagement for the ongoing comprehensive Growth Management Study, known as “Grow Norfolk”.
The study is using new forecasts and new directions to investigate locations for future development within or expanding upon existing settlement areas, reviewing industrial employment lands, dealing with overall housing needs, examining agricultural areas, and much more. It aims to guide future growth and put in place tools to manage and coordinate development in Norfolk County over the next 25 years.
It is now time to move forward in evaluating the options for growth in Norfolk County by incorporating valuable feedback from the community. Some options may be more efficient for infrastructure and financial stability, and we need to ensure that planning for schools, stores, jobs, transportation, parks, and much more are considered.
“Resident feedback is vital to so many of the decisions we make,” said Norfolk County Mayor Amy Martin. “I urge everyone in Norfolk to get involved in this project and our many others so that we can move our municipality toward a vibrant, positive future.”
Public Engagement Event
The Public Engagement Event will take place in the Dogwood Room at the Simcoe Recreation Centre, located at 182 South Drive, on Tuesday, August 15 from 5 – 7 p.m. This event serves as a critical milestone in the continued development of the “Grow Norfolk” study, allowing residents and stakeholders to stay engaged in the process.
During the event, attendees will have the opportunity to:
- Review the progress made since the initial launch.
- Learn more about the results from the ongoing supporting studies, including forecasts for residential and employment growth, completed changes to housing regulations, inventory mapping of each community and the review of agricultural areas.
- Explore the proposed options for growth
- Provide feedback on the proposed evaluation of growth options and the study results to help identify the County’s preferred direction
For those who can’t attend, a recording of the presentation will be available online in addition to an online version of a survey to provide feedback on the study. The survey will be available following the event until September 5.
