Earlier this week, signs were installed at the intersection of Crescent Blvd. and Queensway East in Simcoe that caused some confusion for residents.
One ‘no exit’ sign followed by two ‘no right-or-left-hand turns’ signs on Crescent Blvd. approaching Queensway East were installed to address sightline and safety issues for drivers and pedestrians.
In early March, a letter regarding the proposed signage was sent to residents on Crescent Blvd. between Queensway East and College Ave. and Hawthorne Ave. between College Ave. and Crescent Blvd., providing an opportunity for feedback.
After installing the signage, photos and a description were shared on social media to inform residents, however, after concerns and comments were shared, the County decided to remove the signage until the project’s second phase is completed.
The second phase, planned for this summer, will narrow the roadway width at the intersection by extending the sidewalk and ramp on the northeast corner into the roadway, which will turn Crescent Blvd. into a southbound one-way street and improve the slope of the sidewalk coming off the Cst. John Verral Bridge.
Additional information on the project will be released later this spring, including a drawing of how the updated intersection will appear, and when the second phase of the project will begin.
The safety of the community continues to be the main priority for staff and Council.
