The calendar has turned to spring, and with it comes many waste and recycling programs in Norfolk County.
Leaf and yard waste pickup
The Spring Leaf and Yard Waste program begins the week of April 3 in Zone 1 (Long Point, Simcoe) and the week of April 10 for Zone 2 (Port Dover, Langton, Port Rowan) and Zone 3 (Turkey Point, Vittoria, St. Williams, Courtland, Delhi, Waterford). Materials must be in brown paper yard waste bags or bundled. Plastic bags will not be accepted. Yard waste bags can also be brought to the Simcoe and South Walsingham transfer stations free of charge. South Walsingham Transfer Station opens for the season
The South Walsingham Transfer Station (1180 3rd Concession, Port Rowan) is open from April 1 to November 30. Hours of operation are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Simcoe Transfer Station (164 Fourteenth Street W., Simcoe) is open year-round, Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Reminder that transfer stations are closed on most statutory holidays, including Good Friday and Easter Monday. Bulky item pickup
Bulky Items cannot be placed at the curb for regular collection; however, residents can bring items to a transfer station or schedule a bulky item appointment for collection. The cost per appointment is $27.25. The next pick-up date is the week of April 17. Appointments must be made by noon on April 14 by calling ServiceNorfolk at 519-426-5870 or 226-NORFOLK x 0. Waste collection reminders
Residents should be reminded that garbage and recycling collection for Good Friday is delayed one day until Saturday, April 8. There are no delays in collection for the week of Easter Monday, April 10 to 14.
